Mrs. Padgett's 5th Grade Team

Just another WordPress.com weblog

We are well on our way to the end of the year!  I can’t believe it!!  Here are some things we will be covering over the next several weeks:

Math:

Field Test- we will be taking a math test on Tuesday, April 17th

The fifth grade classes will be covering the remaining topics of patterns and algebraic expressions.  To encourage review, I am asking the parents to utilize IXL math to help your child on the specific areas you know he/ she struggles.

Science:

We are completing our study of biomes this week and will have a culmination project where your child will be researching a biome.  The project will include a written report and a visual.  More information along with a rubric will be given to your child this week.

***Please scroll down to SCIENCE EOG- “ALL SCIENCE VOCABULARY” to get a complete list of vocabulary terms for your child to study!!  There are a variety of ways to study on the site- please include a test to see which words your child has trouble remembering!!  THANKS!

Reading:

For the final nine weeks, I am going to be expecting more Kid Biz to be completed.  Please encourage your child to do a couple on the weekends in addition to those expected during the week.  There is research that directly correlates gains in your child’s Lexile level and the amount of time spent on the program.

Thanks for your continued support!  I’ve enjoyed your children so much!!

Brrrr…it’s January!!!

Will we get snow this year?

Welcome back!  I hope all of you had a restful holiday break and are eager to get back to school!!  We have a lot to do in January!!

In READING and SOCIAL STUDIES, we will be studying the Underground Railroad and all that it encompasses!  The students will be doing research on many topics supporting the main unit!

In MATH, we will be finishing up division and moving into fractions!  This area of study is challenging for most students, but all will be successful if they continue reviewing their multiplication facts!

In SCIENCE, we will be testing on landforms!  Please review vocabulary terms using the STUDY STACK posted to my website!  This will give your child the best opportunity to memorize the definitions!!

Other important information:

DARE starts this week!  We welcome back Officer Rice, who will be teaching all of our DARE lessons!

Please continue to Kid Biz twice a week at home and also use the math program IXL.  Both of these sites are linked to my website!

Thanks for your continued support!!
